five miles (8 km) southeast of the central business district (CBD) of Austin, a city in Travis County, Texas. It covers
4,242 acres and has two runways and two helipads.
The airport began passenger service on May 23, 1999. A total of 8,261,310 passengers traveled through the Austin-Bergstrom
International Airport in 2006, up 7.5 percent over the 2005 record of 7,683,545. Southwest Airlines, American
Airlines, and Continental Airlines are the airport's top carriers.
